Bill’s Family Foods Purchased by HyVee

Bill's Family Foods at Garner (above) and Forest City were recently purchased by Hy-Vee. The last day of business as Bill's is Sunday. June 2. The Garner store will reopen as Hy-Vee on June 8. The Forest City store will reopen on June 18.

After 54 years, Bill’s Family Foods at Forest City and Garner be closing their doors on Sunday, June 2 at 6 p.m. The stores will reopen as Hy-Vee.

The announcement was made on the Bills Family Foods social media page on May 9.

Christina Gayman, public relations director for Hy-Vee, issued this statement:

 “Hy-Vee will acquire the Bill’s Family Foods grocery stores in Forest City, Iowa, and Garner, Iowa, and looks forward to transitioning these stores to Hy-Vee locations so we can provide our numerous products and services to these communities.”

“The Forest City grocery store will undergo a brief remodel beginning June 3 and will reopen approximately two weeks later as a Hy-Vee grocery store on June 18 at 7 a.m. The existing Hy-Vee Pharmacy in Forest City will be relocated and will open inside the Forest City Hy-Vee on June 18.”

“The Garner location will also undergo a brief remodel beginning June 3 and will reopen as a Hy-Vee on June 8.”

In January, Hy-Vee announced the purchase of the Shopko Pharmacy at Forest City. Hy-Vee initially approached the Korth family about purchasing the Forest City store, but agreed to purchase the stores at Garner and Forest City, according to Ken Korth.

“We wanted to make sure our employees were taken care of, too,” Korth said.
