Coming off of a hard loss to Forest City, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura’s schedule continued to challenge them this week as they had rival West Hancock on Dec. 4 at home and then traveled to Belmond-Klemme on Friday.

The Cardinals put on two great performances to beat West Hancock 62-46 and Belmond-Klemme 56-39.

GHV started out flat against the Eagles on Dec. 4.

The press from West Hancock’s defense was working to disrupt GHV’s attack.

“I was really proud of them, at halftime we made adjustments and took control of the game in the fourth quarter,” coach Jake Young said.

The Cardinals outscored the Eagles 22-12 in the final quarter, cementing the lead.

Young felt the team did a great job being physical in their rebounds and playing against the press.

GHV also finished well in transition plays.

The team as a whole contributed to the point total.

Jared Graham and James Betz led the team in points with 10, four additional players were a few points away from double-digits as well.

On the other side of the ball, the team did well to keep high-powered West Hancock offense below their scoring averages

“If you can come in every night and shut down guys, it really frustrates them,” Young said.
