Cardinal boys run twice

Track season is in full swing and the GHV boys’ squad competed in two meets last week. On Monday the Cardinals traveled to Iowa Falls to run in the Cadet Relays. GHV then ran at Lake Mills on Thursday in the Bulldog Relays.

The meet at Iowa Falls is new to the Cardinal schedule this season and that event gave GHV an opportunity to run against some different competition. The Cards finished the night with 30 points overall to finish eighth out of ten teams.

Reece Smith was GHV’s lone gold medal winner at Iowa Falls. The sophomore distance specialist won the 3200-meter run with a time of 9:50.63. Keegan Sassaman scored eight points for GHV with places in two events and Ray Cataldo added four points to the Cardinal total with his effort in the 3200-meter run. Completing GHV’s scoring on the night was the 4 x 800-meter relay team of Logan Dalbeck, Nathan Larson, Luke Brown and Derek Brown.

Several of the top track squads from North Iowa were entered in Thursday’s Bulldog Relays. The home team won the overall title with 153.5 points. The Cardinals were a little short-handed on Thursday, missing three of their top point-scorers and finished the night with 26 points to place seventh out of ten teams.
