The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys soccer team secured two wins in its first three games of the season, outscoring opponents 11-2.

The Cardinals defeated Hampton-Dumont/CAL 6-0 on April 1 and Denver 5-1 on Thursday, both games played in Garner.

On Saturday, GHV fell to Spirit Lake in the 0-1 loss in Forest City on Waldorf’s field.

April 1st’s game was a slow start for the boys.

Coaches Joe Albertson and Josh Banse said ball control and spacing on the field was an issue, but the team soon made better decisions with the ball.

“Throughout the game we applied pretty good pressure on the opponent, but we need to work on playing with more discipline when guarding the ball and keeping our head up,” the two coaches said in a joint statement.

Jared Graham and Austin Bahensky both scored two goals; Graham scored one goal off of a penalty kick.

The team shot on goal 12 times, proving to have little resistance in their first outing of the year.

The team continued to score big in the Denver game, despite failing to score in the first half.
