Fatal three-vehicle crash at Garner

A fatal three-vehicle chain reaction crash occurred at the junction of Highways 18 and 69 at Garner, Monday afternoon.

GARNER – One person was killed and another injured in a three-vehicle crash at Garner, Monday afternoon. The accident occurred about 1:30 p.m. at the east junction of Highways 18 and 69.

Authorities identified the fatality as Andrea Michele Young, 47, of Garner.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2017 Ford Fuson, driven by Lois Ann Eenhuis, 73, of Garner was leaving a business drive and attempted to turn left onto Highway 18, striking a west bound 2015 Mack semi head-on.

The semi crossed the centerline and was struck by 2006 Nissan Murano, driven by Young. The Nissan struck the rear of the trailer being pulled by the semi. Young was fatally injured.

Lois Eenhuis was taken to Mercy Medical Center, North Iowa in Mason City by ambulance.

The driver of the semi, Conner James Hazleton, 22, of Pipestone, Minn., was uninjured.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Garner Police Department, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Garner Fire Department and the Garner Volunteer Ambulance Service.
