GHV baseball season puts together a strong finish


            It may not have ended the way Garner-Hayfield-Ventura baseball would have wanted it, but there was nothing to be ashamed about for the Cardinals this season.

            A season that started off rocky for the Cards turned them into a strong contender at the end of the season.

            “We went through some growing pains,” coach Shawn Schlecter said.

            The 16-9 team tried out a variety of different players in their line up trying to find the right recipe.

            Schlecter had to figure out where the youth of his team could be a benefit to the season.

            “It was an opportunity for us to create our own identity,” Schlecter said.

            Once the team figured out its identity they went on a roll in June where they only lost three times and won seven games in a row.
