The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls soccer team faced  challenges in the postseason.

After finishing the season with a 4-10 record, the Cardinal club were faced against Humboldt on the road for round one of Class 1A regionals on May 28.

The Cards faced Humboldt twice in the regular season, losing both times.

First game was an 0-2 loss on the road; the second being a 1-3 loss at home.

GHV proved third times the charm, however, beating the Wildcats when it counted with a score of 1-0 in overtime.

The game had to be decided with penalty kicks after both teams couldn’t find the net in regulation or extra time.

There Jayden Frank, Hailey Mullins and Bretta Carolus all scored a goal to secure a victory for the Cardinals.

Liz Richardson made two saves in the critical moments of the shootout.
