GHV golf girls stay unbeaten

April weather is rarely ideal for golfing but some nasty conditions on Monday didn’t seem to bother the Cardinal girls. GHV endured some brutal playing conditions on Monday in a triangular at Belmond against the Broncos and Garrigan. Conditions were a little warmer and drier on Thursday when the Cards faced North Iowa and Eagle Grove.

What started as a cold blustery Monday became even worse after two holes of play at Belmond. A light rain and brisk north winds made playing conditions a little more than just unpleasant at times but the Cardinals still turned in their best effort of the season. GHV finished the day with a team score of 190, easily outscoring Garrigan (233) and Belmond-Klemme (268).

Bailee Frayne earned medalist honors with a four-over-par 41 and Carlee Frayne was runner-up with a 44. Rachel Enright was the third GHV player to break 50, finishing the day with a 49 and Paige Penning completed the team total with a 56. Kayla Leerar carded a non-scoring 60 for the Cards.

Cardinal coach Todd Greiman commented, “I’m amazed at how well the girls scored considering the weather and the fact that par at the Belmond course is 37. Both Bailee and Carlee have already set the bar pretty high for themselves so maintaining their level of play will be challenging but welcome. Rachel earned her best score of her career and both Paige and Kayla are improving each time out.”
