In front of their home crowd, 12 athletes punched their ticket to the Track and Field State meet in Des Moines.

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura boys and girls track team hosted a Class 2A State Qualifying meet on Friday.

By the end of the day, three boys events and two girls events managed to seed themselves for state.

The girls team had only 20 team points but still tasted success through Madeline Hinz and the shuttle hurdle team.

Hinz seeded into fifth place of the 100-meter hurdle with a 15.69 time.

On Friday, the time grabbed her third place; she is the highest seeded third-place finisher in her category.

HInz continued her success through the 400-meter shuttle hurdles.

The team consisting of Mara Anderson, Lorelei Cash, Kylie Anderson and Hinz placed in second at the qualifying meet.

On the boys side, Reece Smith proved multiple times why he’s the current 2A cross country champion by qualifying in three distance events.

On his own he finished first in the 1600 and 3200-meter events on Friday; he ran times of 4:33.69 and 9.58.00.

He seeded third in the 1600 and first in the 3200.

As a team, the Cardinals qualified its distance medley squad by placing first at home on Friday with a time of 3:38.30.

The time is good enough to seed them in second.

The team consists of Devion Moore, Jace Pringnitz, Caleb Renner and Smith with Holden Larson and Nathan Larson filing in the alternate spots.
