Kanawha City Council discuss wage payments

Pay was the topic of the night for Kanawha City Council, who met briefly on July 9 for its regular meeting.

The council opened up their agenda discussing payment requested by summer recreation director Nikki Riedesel.

Riedesel had appeared before the council the month prior to request an increase in pay as to allow for her to bring on an additional third coach to help with the 33 kids who were out for little league this season as well as help pay for costs that couldn’t be directly paid for by the city.

She submitted a request for $2500 to the council for this meeting.

The council discussed some of the variables regarding the issue.

$600 was collected in sponsorships according to Riedesel’s requests and $300 collected in dues.

City Clerk Sharon Grimm noted that the city has written checks to Riedesel in total of $300 and two checks to Rachel Johnson in the total of $114.35.

Some concerns were brought up in regards to how funds were being dispersed.

Councilman Ray Basset stated that any individual that’s done work for the city needs to be paid.
