GHV soccer coach Josh Banse was hoping to avenge a one-point loss to Clear Lake in both teams’ season opener last month. GHV hosted the Lions on Tuesday in a match that Banse felt his team could win, but Clear Lake spoiled the Cardinals’ upset attempt. Adding salt to the wound was Thursday’s lopsided loss at Denver.

Two quick Lion goals proved to be the difference in Tuesday’s match against Clear Lake as GHV fell 3 – 1. Alison Johnson scored GHV’s goal and finished the night with two shots-on-goal. Jacki Van Oort added two shots-on-goal while Payton Echelberger was credited with an assist. Morgan Westendorf returned to the lineup after sitting out injured to record 10 saves as goalkeeper.

“I though we played a solid 70 minutes of soccer tonight,” noted Banse. “Unfortunately Clear Lake only needed 10 minutes early to score two goals! We moved the ball well and had chances we just couldn't get the shots to go in and Clear Lake did.”
