Occasionally a sports team has to endure a game where no matter how hard the players work for the win, things just don’t turn out in their favor.

It was one of those nights for Garner-Hayfield-Ventura football.

As the seniors played their final game on the field, the team almost managed to pull an epic comeback in the rain against Southeast Valley on Friday.

Two late scores from the Jaguars would put the game ultimately out of reach for the Cardinals.

The final score, Southeast Valley by 42-22.

The Cardinals looked a bit outmatched by the Jaguars to start the game, especially on the front line where SEV’s defensive line was faster and pushed with more aggression against the GHV blockers.

Even so, the Cards showed their will to win by keeping in the game up until halftime.

GHV would score its first touchdown after a setup from beautifully called play on 4th and 10 on Southeast’s own 29.
